Super Nintendo!
Super Nintendo Wins!
When your mom says she has The Terminator at home lol. The genesis guy looks like shane gillis
Lol!
Why didn't anyone tell me Rush 2049 was on the gamecube? Thank you!
Thanks for watching! That one and Hydro Thunder are both from the compilation Midway Arcade Treasures 3.
I avoid the Resident Evil at all costs. However I take offence to how horable the color and brightnes look on the gamecube compared to the Dreamcast. Although it's not my cup of tea, I can respect it as art and I pains me to see the beautiful colorfully texture work all turn green. And wash out the blacks.
The green colors on the GameCube version is weird. I thought there was something wrong with my component cables but after watching other people's footage I guess it's just the way they made it.
With Super Nintendo Entertainment System I wanted a Girlfriend
2:03:44 Why not as Smurfette?
Some 2600 looks and feels better then 5200 and 7800. They usually have nicer colors, gradients and run smoother.
With such limited technology it's surprising that the 2600 outshined either in any circumstance but yet I feel that happened more often than I expected.
@@RetroComparisons I am surprised that 5200 and 7800 games rearly use those nice color gradient and rainbow effects used in many 2600 games.
This is one solid port! I figured most NES games would be far inferior. You do not have any special filters or anything? lol Also nice freakin job with multi-ball game play, that alone is the very reason why I enjoy this type of game. The madness that can be had! Winner: Arcade, just barely! Other winner: You kicking serious butt! Not only are the comparisons enjoyable, so is your game play man. It is NOT easy to pick up and play for a bit with most of these games and here you are being a badass! Makes us all winners!!!!
This and the first game in the series look and play outstanding, pretty much on par with the arcade which is surprising. I will say though that I've been surprised with the NES overall. There are games coming up this year that I've already recorded that I think outshine their arcade counterpart. And no filters needed lol! Though I would be interested to see what kind of filters emulators have for the NES. Thanks for the kind words buddy! This is one of the type of games that is easier for me to pick up and play since I played the hell out of Breakout and Super Breakout on the 2600 growing up.
@@RetroComparisons Yep I played a ton of this type of game, it is always a safe go to! I am glad this series has turned out so well as quickly as it has.
@@mikec3260 Yeah you can never go wrong with a good brick puzzle game. Thanks buddy, this season is coming along nicely though it's going to be a long time before it finishes. That will give me time to get to some pet projects like finally doing the PS1 vs N64 video that's been on my list for years.
@@RetroComparisons Ohhh damn! PS1 vs N64 would be awesome, 2 very different graphics types and capabilities.. Should be a gem!
@@mikec3260 Yeah that's gonna be quite fun to see how they stack up. Can't wait to see the fan boys on both sides arguing lol!
You know, I knew about Bonanza Bro's due to Sonic Racing series. It wasn't until your comparisons when I knew it was tied to an actual game series. The SMS does very well here! Winner: Arcade but not by much. This is not a game I would play at all, it is fun to see games I have never really heard of! Keep on kicking ass my friend!!!
Thanks so much my friend! The SMS port looks great and may be one of the best so far to match up to a contemporary arcade game. I find this game to be way more fun than I ever thought and shotgunl says it's even more fun with 2 players so I've got to try that out some time.
@@RetroComparisons That is great to know, I will have to try it out sometime!
Not to be confused w Bang Bros
What? I have no idea what you're talking about...
GB have animated water 😅
That's a nice touch with the detail
Fantastic video. You can add some honebrews like Mega Man 2600 demo. Robot ZET, MAPPY, Bomber Man, Elevator Action. There are many more. Oh you forgot about Spider Man and Super man on atari VS NES. Also there is one very similar games Tanks but no Tanks and Battle City.
Thanks so much for watching! I'd love to check out some of those homebrews, I'm always fascinated on what people can do with this old technology and make it look incredible. For the purposes of these videos I do avoid homebrew though just because it's an ongoing thing that could date the videos at some point. I think those Superman & Spider-Man games are technically different games altogether though those 2600 games are both a lot of fun. Superman in particular seemed ahead of its time for such a primitive console.
I'd have to give both a tie lol.
Haha! I think I'm with you on that. The arcade looks better and has 2 player support but the SMS does give the whole screen view which is a plus so they both have something going for it.
oly crap! Clean lines! Tiles that hide repetition through minimalist, easy to read visuals! Colors that are actually on speaking terms with one another! A style so far removed from the grind of replicating the real world that even neutral grey has a home! Is this really Sega? Unfortunately... As a kid I wouldn't touch it, unless you gave it away. I mean, this is somehow clinical and goofy at the same time. But it also has an understanding of cool that completely rejects cool and makes use of it at the same time. That level of nuance was asking a lot from the same generation that made Pitfighter an arcade hit. Edit: You wouldn't believe how many edits it took to make this comnent. Or maybe you would? I really hope you don't get a new notification every time Brave forces me to delete and resubmit.
Screw it. I'll leave that oly in. Especially since the spell check made me type it 4 times to do it down here, on purpose this time.
What is with comments getting deleted on my channel? So weird. I know shotgunl runs into the same problem too. You always take the analysis of these games to a new level and it's fun to read and think about. This is such a strange game come to think of it and it's not surprising there wasn't a direct sequel unless you count the Puzzle & Action games.
Surprisnglu This Is A Pretty Accurate Port Like The Perfect SEGA Génesis Port
This is top notch for an 8 bit port
Remember that those games were made with scanlines in mind and look vastly different and better on a CRT.
The vast majority of my experience with Bonanza Bros was 2-players with the version in Sega Classics Collection on the PS2 and then a little sprinkling of the Genesis version in more recent years. I like the game, but since I feel the game shines best with 2-players (which I haven't had a chance to do in many years, sadly), I'm not sure what to think if the SMS port. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like a solo affair? I haven't actually played that version. I does look and sound okay for the system (and the PCM voice samples are neat for the SMS, even though it stops the action to play the samples). I do like that you can see more of the vertical space though. I'd definitely go with the arcade version here, but this seems okay enough on the SMS. The game-like a lot of games-is definitely more fun, IMO, with 2 players though.
As far as I know the SMS is only 1 player. I really enjoy this game but am yet to do a 2 player game and I can imagine that making it even better. I've played the Genesis version more than any other port but having the full screen is probably the biggest advantage the SMS port has going for it.
Surprisingly, I gotta give it to the Master System. Full screen view area.
It's a fantastic port that doesn't lose much all things considered.
@@RetroComparisons It probably helps that the original has a highly abstract aesthetic.
Many fond memories play the SMS. We never got a 16 bit console so I went from SMS to PS1 talk about being blown away. I played a LOT of Road Rash on the SMS. IT was a great game, but the sound really got to you after a while I had to play it with the volume down.
Wow that's a huge jump in technology! When I was young my brother and I played on our parent's 2600 but finally got our own console in the form of the Genesis so we missed the 8 bit generation. I always thought that was a massive leap but going from 8 bit 2D to 3D with CD quality audio is a literal game changer. Road Rash does look stunning for an 8 bit console version. The music is lackluster but at least the gameplay is still really solid.
NES: READY DOWN- SNES: HUT HUT
La rival de la ps1 era sega saturn. De la dreamcast la ps2. Comparación injusta y odiosa.
Back when console generations actually showed progress. Nowadays it’s the same look, just higher resolutions and performance.
and why did the NES win it was do to them forcing game makers to only make the games for them it was BS
They had so many crappy policies back then that were basically a monopoly.
@@RetroComparisons if they did not do this Sega would still be on top with Sony and X box
O deramCast tinha um acabamento melhor e a cor mais viva
That's just the common titles. Nintendo kick it's ass overall. Tecmo Super Bowl, Turtles 2 & 3, and many other titles. Master System graphics were definitely ahead, but sound, replay value, and 2 Player titles were owned by the NES.
The SMS had some incredible games but yeah the NES library is almost unfairly stacked with classics.
Missing Superman The Man of Steel
Those are considered 2 separate games technically. While the SMS is called Super: The Man Of Steel the Genesis game is completely different and only called Superman except for in Europe where it does share the same name.
Both consoles are good but the GameCube is a bit brighter.
the Saturn had to carry Sega CDs failure and release date, it processed 3D like ass, didn't have any really strong exclusives and had to fight the PlayStation. the Dreamcast did it good but it was to late and the ps2 had DVD
Has an old genesis owner, i have to admit, snes look better in almost every games.
Dreamcast version looks like a remaster
Hello, could you make a comparison of arcade games vs Snes games, greetings
Hi, I definitely want to do that but with all of the current projects I have on queue that probably won't be for at least a year or two. It is one of my bucket list videos to do.
Another great port! Great comparison, also was that you playing? Nice job you got 3 balls that one time with one thing!! lol
Yeah I agree this is an excellent port to the point where I think it's totally on par with its arcade counterpart. Thanks buddy! Yep that's me, I've done all of the footage on the channel except for 1 video of Tony Hawk that my friend did for me because I'm so embarrassingly bad at those games lol!
@@RetroComparisons Oh sweet! Yeah this game is one of the more underrated series I always thought. Is this considered a puzzle game? I guess so right? Also no worries lol I can related trying to do tricks I failed miserably back when I rented Tony hawk for the N64 lol 😆
@@MKF30 It really is an underrated gem. You know what, that's a great question. I guess it would be a puzzle game of some sort. Lol I'm glad I'm not the only one who failed miserably at that game.
@@RetroComparisons haha yeah I did a few easy tricks but the ones with the doing different things in the air, just started to piss me off lol. Which is funny coming from a guy who plays fighting games and has made some crazy combo MK videos but yeah nobody is perfect lol. It's funny I have a friend who is great at the skateboarding, snowboarding trick games SSX Tricky I think? etc he was like "dude how do you do those crazy combos in MK, I can never" yet does those insane tricks in those extreme sports games haha. And thanks! It feels closest to a puzzle game especially two player against each other for sure my guess lol
@@MKF30 Lmao! Yeah come to think of it, I'd think you'd be amazing at it considering the complex combos you need to pull off in MK. I guess maybe it's more like instruments. You can be a prodigy at piano but only have basic knowledge when it comes to playing guitar, the two don't fully translate.
PS1 is trash Dreamcast is great no reason to compare a trash console to a great console embarrassing Sony with their first console
I'd give them both a tie, even tho thr snes version is better.
I haven't tried the SNES version. I love both of these so I'll be happy to try that one out.
Dreamcast is tied with N64 for my all time favorite console
They're both excellent.
internet is very exclusive at that moment, dreamcast is not so popular, also nobody buy 2 console and try to find the diffrent, i have PS 1 and DreamCast but didn't try to find the diffrent, because i don't buy same game for 2 console, my parent will angry and it like wasting my money to do that, i'm at 11-12 years old at that moment, sadly i sell my dreamcast because lack of JRPG franchise relese and keep my PS1
I don't believe I've actually played Revenge of Doh. The Famicom port here seems similar to the NES port of the first game: not as nice graphically, kind of a toss-up sound-wise, but also seems like overall a good port.
It's once again a nice port of the arcade original and I think it may be a tie here. But having said that I found the first game to be slightly more fun but I can't put my finger on why.
D'oh! Honestly I don't think I have either..
good like remake on snes or perhaps demake version for nes 😅
I'm going to give this one a tie.
I think this is the first non-arcade win for the season for you:)
Wouldn't PS1=saturn PS2=dreamcast be more accurate?
In terms of generations those would make the most sense though a lot of my channel is seeing how things improve from one gen to the next. I found this one to be extra fascinating because the Dreamcast competed with the PS1 & PS2 for an almost equal amount of time but technically competed with the PS1 directly for a longer period.
The Dreamcast had so much potential.
I had a NES when i was a child, i was jealous of my friend's SM , because it looks better 😂
Lol! Well they were both pretty incredible. But the graphics on the Master System were on another level.
Great port, I've played arkanoid a lot over the years and most home ports are just as good as the arcade ports imo. Great classic, nice comparison.
Thanks buddy! Yeah this is a fantastic port but these are the only versions I've tried. I really need to check out some other ports of this now.
@@RetroComparisons Oh yeah for sure dude. The DS one is awesome and even came with a paddle thing but sadly it was for thr Japanese version only so the only way to get it is via online e bay or something. Its cool it plugs into the GBA slot on the bottom and acts like its own controller. Theres vids on it on here pretty cool. I played this version, snes, GC, DS etc I recently bought the arkanoid ultimate collection or whatever its called few months tha back on switch. You're welcome always solid vids!
@@MKF30 That is so freaking cool! I kinda want one now, that sounds like a badass accessory .
@@RetroComparisons Yeah its pretty cool snd apparently can be used for bust a move too. I just looked it up Amazon sells the bundle with arkanoid but costs a few hundred bucks lol 😆
@@MKF30 Holy crap! That's super cool but a little out of my price range lol!
I never knew this started off as an arcade game until about 4 years ago and I played at Hyperspace 80s Arcade, in Lakewood. Was pretty good for an arcade game, the twist nob made it a worthy game for sure. Otherwise I have only played the NES and 2600 versions as well as random variants. The NES held up way better than expected. Actually I am learning the NES is better visually than I remember as a kid. Winner: Arcade The other winner: Hectic times with playing this or other variants and trying super hard to hang in there lol! Nice showing of a game with a simple concept that is hard as hell to.play. This season is going to be badass.
I didn't know this was an arcade game either until recently. Much like Contra I always associated this as a NES exclusive. Both versions are great but with it being so hard I can't imagine how many quarters it would have taken to get even to level 3 in the arcade so based on that merit I think I'd take the NES version as the winner. Without that factor maybe a tie? Oh yeah this season is already shaping up to be quite fun with a lot of quality games and some that I've always wanted to try out like Chiller.
Beamrider looks fine on every system
It really does and it's fun on each of them.
Compared Arkanoid? That's a paddling... ...controller! (The Arkanoid DS paddle add-on was amazing)
Lol! Airing the sequel tomorrow while also using the D-Pad, oh you better believe that's a paddling. Holy crap I didn't know there was an add-on for the DS version. I really want that now but looking at the Ebay prices..maybe not. I wonder if that works for any other game? If there's a Kaboom! DS I'm gonna have to drop some $$.
@@RetroComparisons Yup, I've used it for Space Invaders Extreme 1 & 2, and looks like Space Bust-a-Move also uses it.
@@ragintombo Oh man, I've got to put this on my wish list now.
Although I vaguely had heard of Arkanoid, I didn't play any version until many years later in the late 90s via emulation, I think I first tried the NES version in NESticle or maybe the SNES sequel after a friend reminded about the game. I don't remember actually seeing an Arkanoid cab. I did have a shareware knock-off for DOS called Bananoid. Tthe only game in the series I own is the Arkanoid vs Space Invaders android game (which I enjoyed). I do enjoy a good brick-busting, break-out game, but I just don't buy many of them. The arcade version of Arkanoid is nicer than the NES port, but it's a good port. I would certainly have had fun with the port had I had it (and preferably the paddle controller it came with).
I've always heard about how great this game is but it wasn't until a few weeks ago when I finally got to try it out and I think it lives up to the hype. Some of my earliest gaming memories are of playing Breakout and Super Breakout on the 2600 so this is right up my alley. I remember having a really fun game in this vein on my Blackberry back in 2010 and probably wasted too much time on it back then lol. I'd be interested to see the Arkanoid vs Space Invaders game, that also sounds like something I'd love. I think the NES version of this is excellent and is almost as good in every department but exceeds the arcade in the sense that it's so hard you'd probably waste so much money trying to beat it.
@@RetroComparisons Yeah, I always liked these types of games, especially Super Breakout on the 2600. Warlords also.
@@shotgunl Oh yeah Warlords is so great. I don't think I had that as a kid but I love it now.
Pretty good port! They even had a special paddle controller for it.
The NES version is excellent. It plays pretty well with the D Pad but I would be curious to see how it is with that controller. I'm sure it makes it even better if it's anything like the 2600 paddle for Breakout, Kaboom, etc.
@@RetroComparisons I think it was esoteric to this game. I'm not sure any other games ever used it.
Nice! I wanna inform you once again that there is also a fan made version of Arkanoid for the 7800 😄
I just watched it after reading your comment and that looks phenomenal. It's a shame it didn't get an official port.
@@RetroComparisons yeah, I agree. It's a superb version!
